Hello! My name is Bethany and I am an English teacher from Ohio. I specialize in teaching conversational English to intermediate students. I have taught English since 2010.
TEACHING STYLE: My classes are customized to your individual needs and goals. If you need to need to learn English to use in a specific situation, I will help you learn the necessary vocabulary and grammar. You will speak a lot during class. My classes are focused primarily on speaking skills.
I use the Communicative Approach for teaching. The Communicative Approach is based on the idea that language is for communicating, not for taking exams. I help students become more fluent and confident in their English communication skills.
VERBLING CLASSES: Verbling classes work best when you use a computer. I often send links during class, so please use a computer. I also strongly recommend using a camera. This helps me see how you pronounce things, and then I can make better pronunciation corrections.
MATERIALS: I primarily use Google Docs, but I also upload PDFs and other materials to Verbling. Depending on your needs, we might watch short videos, read articles and other texts, and do various other activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: I have a Bachelor's degree in Education and have taken Master's-level classes certifying me in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I have also taken Master's-level classes in teaching reading. I started teaching in 2010. I have taught in public schools, evening English classes, and online. I have also taught workshops for new English teachers since 2018.
