Hi, I'm Azumi from Yokohama, Japan. I can teach you Japanese in English, Spanish and Portuguese! I was born in Tokyo, raised in Yokohama and schooled in Vancouver, Canada. I’m from Yokohama, one of the biggest cities in Japan, located on Tokyo Bay just South of Tokyo, so I speak and teach Tokyo dialect, also known as standard dialect.
My major was English language and literature and I did my graduate thesis on intercultural communications. I also took ESL courses with several different professors over the years so I understand how hard it is to study different languages and I know what works.
My methodology on language learning is a combination of immersive and traditional learning. I was born in Japan and studied in Canada and USA.
When I was studying music in LA, I learned Brazilian music and a couple of years later I went to Brazil and met my husband.
I didn't know how to speak Portuguese at that time, I only knew how to sing in Portuguese, but from the very first day of Brazil I learned how to have fun and communicate with people without knowing much of the theory and vocabulary. It was just like how people learn jazz. There's a theory behind, but the most importantly we should feel and improvise. And to understand the theory, you first should listen, listen and listen.
So my learning and teaching method can be a little unique. It's not like the traditional way that we all know, which you read, write, and listen to the explanations, instead, I want you to feel it.
