Hi everyone! I'm Chiara, from Rome, Italy. I graduated from the University of La Sapienza with a Master Degree in History of Art and am a certified DITALS teacher of Italian for Foreigners. Previously I worked in my home city, Rome, where I taught not only Italian, but also art and general culture. I also worked as a CILS exams preparation trainer. I have taught students from all over the world, at all levels (from A1 to C2, ECFR), and all ages. During my lessons, I focus on my students, their needs, their goals and their weaknesses in the most relaxed atmosphere as possible. My personal goal is to have my students reach their goals.

I was preparing a lesson for a student of mine, when I found myself struggling with a translation. The word was “cavare”. «Pull out» I thought. But then… was there a better word? “Cavare”, in Italian, doesn’t only mean “to pull out”, that would be “estrarre”, “tirar fuori”, “rimuovere” or something else. “Cavare” has the word “cavità” (cavity) in it. “Cavare” means “to extract from a cavity”, “to remove and leave a cavity” and I couldn’t find a single word in English that suited the perfect meaning. This happens to me all the time, as I speak three languages daily and I am a “word perfectionist”: I am fascinated by the meaning that every word can have, those little shades of significance that can only be understood by those who profoundly study a language. And that is what I do: I study, all the time, to speak each of my three languages at its best, and I teach, to make my students learn properly the meaning of words and their best combination. Since you're probably here to choose a teacher from among hundreds, let me share a helpful tip: one of the strongest signs of of student satisfaction is the average number of lessons per student. How do you calculate it? Simply divide the total number of lessons a teacher has given by the number of students who have taken at least a second class. Verbling is especially helpful here, as it’s the only platform that clearly displays this statistic on each teacher’s profile. (In my case, you’ll see I have around 50 lessons per student: this number is calculated by Verbling, taking into account only those students who took at least one class after the trial class) To sum up: if you avoid teachers with a low average, you're much more likely to enjoy a positive and rewarding learning experience.
