Did you know that Canada celebrates Thanksgiving more than a month before the USA?
Thanksgiving in Canada can be traced all the way back to 1578; however, the first national Thanksgiving in Canada was celebrated in 1859. Celebrations are held every year, to give thanks for the harvest. One of the main differences between US and Canadian Thanksgiving is that there are no 'pilgrims and natives' in Canadian Thanksgiving history. We really just want to keep it peaceful and thank the land for what it's given to us and enjoy the time with family and friends. :)

Thanksgiving is officially observed on the second Monday in October but many Canadians get together with family and friends for their Thanksgiving meal on one of the days during the weekend preceding Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a recognized holiday in most Canadian provinces, so many companies are closed and people enjoy a day off work.
Canadians like to enjoy turkey with cranberry sauce, stuffing (a savoury bread pudding), mashed potatoes or yams, typical autumn vegetables - and don't forget the pumpkin pie (as seen in the picture above)!
Happy Thanksgiving!

▶▶I'll be going on maternity leave in mid-December, so be sure to book while you can! Time's limited!◀◀ Hi everyone/ciao a tutti! My name's Alannah and I'm a CELTA (Cambridge University) qualified English teacher from western Canada but I've spent the past 5 years in Italy. I've been teaching English in-person for 12 years and online for about 3 years. I specialize in helping INTERMEDIATE to ADVANCED learners reach their fluency goals, whether for business/career advancement, travel or 'just because.' :::::I recommend that you contact me for a trial, so we can discuss your needs and work out a plan - just for you.::::: -------------------------------------- I use a variety of conversation techniques and topics. I recognize that each person is different and has separate, unique requirements. I'm confident that you'll be satisfied and excited to learn English with me! -------------------------------------- I've studied and learned a second language (Italian), so I know exactly what types of challenges you, as a learner, are faced with. It can be overwhelming and even stressful sometimes - but it really shouldn't be! I'm here to help you relax and enjoy the English learning process. I hope you're ready to continue your English journey with me. I'm ready to meet you! -------------------------------------- NOTE: One of my most popular lessons is the 'Conversation with Correction' option: During the lesson, I write down 1-2 pages of your errors while we're conversing. As we approach the end of the lesson, I scan the document and share my screen with you. We then correct your errors together. You try to recognize your errors and I help you fine-tune the corrections, providing clear, concise explanations. Once the lesson is over, I scan the document again (this time, with corrections) and send it to you via Verbling's message system. This way, you have a visual copy of your mistakes and can review new vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar structures. The document is an excellent tool to help track your progress and see the improvements you're making / what you need to continue working on.
