Improve Pronunciation and Intonation with this Fun, Easy Technique...
Want to improve your pronunciation and intonation while relaxing and having fun? Here's a cool technique you can use anytime when you have a few minutes of free time...
Step 1: Put on your favorite English language TV show. If you can't find it online, just try looking for a clip of that show on youtube.
Step 2: Choose a character to focus on whose accent you would like to copy.
Step 3: Have a recording device on hand--you'll need to record your own voice.
Step 4: Every time your character says something, pause the video and repeat what they said, trying to say it exactly the way that he or she said it. Try to copy their pronunciation, their accent, and their intonation. Which part of the word or sentence is said more strongly than the others? Record yourself repeating your character's words.
Step 5: Listen to your recording of yourself, then listen to your character repeat their line one more time. What is similar about the way you say it? What is different? If you think that it sounds very different, repeat and try again!
Step 6: Do this for as long as you like, but when you start to feel tired, take a break! Research shows that people who take regular breaks while studying are actually much more productive and learn a lot more than those who try to study or work for a long time without breaks.
There you have it! A simply technique to improve your pronunciation, accent and intonation. Of course, it can also be very helpful to work with a tutor to check your progress and help you identify any mistakes you might not notice yourself.
