Useful English Business Phrases

We live in a world where it is very likely that learning a second language can help us amplify and expand our businesses. However, there are a number of important words and phrases that you may come across when doing business with someone who speaks English. Knowing these colloquialisms can be very helpful in reading and speaking English in a professional setting.

1) 24/7: Literally, this phrase means 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can use when something is ongoing and constant; for example, "We have to be open 24/7" means "We have to be open all day, every day."

2) Game plan: This refers to a strategy or plan. For example, "What is this project's game plan?"

3) Get the ball rolling: This phrase means to start something. For example, "The presentation is due tomorrow, so the presenters need to get the ball rolling on the slides."

4) Put the cart before the horse: This means that something is being done out of order. For example, "We wrote the email before we knew what the project was about. We put the cart before the horse."

Hello! Congratulations on your decision to learn a new language -- I hope to help make it the best, most positive experience that it can be! I have had numerous experiences with tutoring students of all levels, from beginner to advanced, in English. I'm happy to cater your lesson to whatever your learning goals may be -- whether that's conversational skills, business terminology, or just the basics! I will try to make my lessons as practical, interactive, and fun as possible so that you learn the most and enjoy the process. If you are a Spanish-speaker, am also fluent in Spanish, having lived in both Argentina and Spain, and happy to conduct portions of the lesson in Spanish for you.
