앞말을 지정하여 어떤 사실을 부정하는 뜻을 강조하는 보조사. 보조사 ‘는’에 보조사 ‘커녕’이 결합한 말이다.
A postpositional particle used to imply negation by emphasizing the preceding statement.
It can be translated into the following meaning.:
anything but; far from; not at all; in no wise.
“Noun은/는커녕 B(도) + negative situation”
“Verb기는커녕 + negative situation”
means ‘Don’t even mention A because it is far from —‘.
은/는 커녕 is used to say “There wasn’t X, let alone Y” or “Never mind Y, I didn’t even do X!” The noun or verb before the structure is attached to let alone or never mind, while 도 is used for emphasis in the second part:
This grammatical form is used mainly with negative sentences and could be translated in English as "..let alone....". Therefore most of the times the second clause with have 안- , 못- or 없다.
It is used to indicate that the preceding part is needless to say because it is impossible compared to the following clause which could be possible but is still, under the circumstances, difficult too.
