Camera Technology
6 years agoThere were a lot of camera announcements in 2018. Panasonic rebased the Gh5, and announced the full frame S1 and S1R. Canon released the EOS R and announced the EOS RP.
We are expecting Sony to update the a7 III line.
The trend is clear. Mirrorless, full-frame cameras capable of 4K video have become the new standard.
Is full frame needed? Does it solve low light problems of crop sensors, or introduce new issues?
Do I need to upgrade? What do these terms mean?

Able to store content on two solid state cards. Common cards include SD card, micro SD card, CF card.
Auto-Focus for video
For situations when your subject is moving a lot, continuous autofocus is important. The camera must be capable of phase detect autofocus. Canon has an excellent on sensor phase-detect autofocus.
Panasonic uses contrast detect autofocus. While Panasonic has cameras capable of amazing autofocus like the GH5 or S1, it is terrible at continuous autofocus. Video shot with autofocus will often hunt in and out, causing the background to appear as if it was breathing.
People are able to over come this by shooting in manual, however, this is only effective if your subject is not moving.
F Stop
Governs the amount of light a lens focuses on the sensor. The smaller the sensor, the more light that reaches the sensor. Each lens has a limit to the amount of light it is capable of letting through.
50mm F 1.2
18-135 F4.5-5.6
The first lens is capable of opening all the way up to 1.2. This lens works very well in low light scenes. The second lens can open all the way up to 4.5 at 18mm, but only 5.6 at 135mm.
The second lens is designed for outside settings; the first lens is design for inside portraits.
