Collaborating with your Teacher to Plan your Language Learning

For adults learning a new language, there is no single learning method that will suit every student. Your best approach to learning will be based on a variety of factors including: your mother tongue and its differences with the target language, the amount of previous training you’ve had, your location either within the target language environment or away from it, your particular talents as a learner, and, of course, your goals for using the new language, such as work, travel, or socializing.

Remember, there is no universal formula for learning a second language successfully. For this reason, it’s important to collaborate with your teacher to create a customized learning plan that addresses your own objectives. The teacher’s needs analysis, your goals, and the amount of time you intend to spend learning will determine your lesson content and activities. The teacher will listen to you, ask questions, and develop your plan in collaboration with you to benefit your learning experience. The more active you as a student are in this process, the more likely you will achieve success!
