Do you do "listening" exercises in your lessons? Is it necessary? Is it a good use of lesson time?

This question is aimed at students as well as teachers.

I very rarely do any ostensible listening tasks in my lessons, and haven't done for many years. My main focus in lessons is speaking (with a bit of reading and "live listening", usually dictogloss and straightforward dictation); and the homework I set is nearly always a writing task. Occasionally I set a listening task for homework, but I often find that my students are independently motivated to watch something on Netflix or YT to their own taste, in English, which is why I generally don't bother to organize lessons around listening.

I'm interested to know what other teachers and students reckon about how worthwhile a use of lesson time listening tasks are.
