Do you prefer tests, or assessments?

So let¨s hear your views. In Portugal the public schools follow a continual assessment curriculum policy, which I can tell you, is truly continuous, in fact it is non-stop. Young people these days seem to have no time for fun and their weekends and holidays (except summer) are spent revising for impending assessments.
For the Cambridge exams my school continually assesses writing and speaking but does a full end of term mock test every semester.
I think I prefer the half half approach, however, this is not so easily applied to academic learning because there are less skills sets to divide up. For my English lessons I would recommend monthly revision assessments here on Verbling, but of course, the student will always have the final say :)
