¿El agua o La agua?

The word "Agua" is a feminine word in spanish. However, it is true we sometimes use the "male" article. Saying or writting El agua is not wrong at all. 

It does not mean either that we can pick either El or La at anytime, we only use El when the article and Agua are close, as in El agua está caliente. 
If there is another word in between, this does not apply.

For example: La misma agua. 

This is because it's easier to say El agua than to say La agua bc the stress is in the first A. 
This also happens with words such as área and hacha.
