Favorite English Expression?

As an English teacher, I often help my students understand common English expressions and idioms, such as "up in the air" or "cool as a cucumber."

Today, I helped someone understand "she isn't the brightest crayon in the box" (a 'nice' way to say that someone isn't intelligent).

What are your favorite idioms or English expressions that you have learned? Which ones are you still trying to understand?
