IELTS, How important do you think it is?

I am an IELTS Specialist with 12 years experience in teaching IELTS classes. I also used to be an examiner about four years ago. 
So How important is IELTS to you?  

How do you improve your skills to get the score you really want? 
Is it the end of your English lessons after you reach the score band you set out to achieve? 
Even after the IELTS exam is over and you have received your score, your English journey is never really over!
