Is there discrimination between the different Korean dialects?

When watching "You're All Surrounded ( 너희들은 포위됐다 )", it featured people that aren't from Seoul. I noticed that their intonations sounded different and the characters portrayed were super naive or easily tricked. Is this perception carried into the culture in Korea? I'm interested in improving my listening and speaking in a dialect, but I'd like to be aware of the cultural implications first. Thank you for your responses.
