Learning two languages at once?

Hello! 

Just curious on learning two languages at once. 
My in-laws speak both Hindi and Punjabi (and I've been hearing it for almost 7 years) and I'm wondering how others have dealt with learning two languages at the same time (or being native Hindi speaker and then learning Punjabi, or vice versa), issues with the possibility of getting languages confused and if with disciple and good direction it is possible?
