Meet the oldest Pole!

This week I have another piece of news for you from the Polski Daily!

They call her the Polish “superhoundred” years old – Tekla Juniewicz was born on June 10th 1906 and she’s officially the oldest Pole! As the city of Gliwice informs, from 2017 she’s the oldest person in Poland, the second oldest in Europe and the fifth oldest in the whole world. She has two daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren!

What is Mrs Tekla’s recipe for a long life? Her granddaughter Anna revealed that Nana Tekla distances herself from what’s happening around her. She never looks back, doesn’t have any regrets, doesn’t dwell on the past, on any moments, any made decisions, nor on any people who might have hurt her in. She forgets all the negative emotions, bad things and stress. And when something goes wrong, she always says it’s good it’s only that, because „it could’ve been worse”. Calm, no stress, no worrying – this is her secret to long life!

According to the information shared by the official website of Gliwice city, Tekla Juniewicz was born nearby Lviv, the city in today’s Ukraine. In 1927 she got married and together with her husbend moved to Borysław. In 1945, after the war, together with her family she left the east. They were going to Wałbrzych, but on the way they got off the train in Gliwice, as their friends talked them into staying there… and they stayed in Gliwice forever! Mrs Tekla’s husband passed away aged 96. Until she was 103 she lived alone and managed with her everyday life with no problems. Nowadays she stays with her grandson Adam.

This year, for her 115th bday, Mrs Tekla got the best gift of all – her great great granddaughter was born! We wish them both at least 150 years more! ;)

Cheers!
