On books (1) : What does this tell you?

“They took to silence. They touched each other without comment and without progression. A hand on a hand, a clothed arm, resting on an arm. An ankle overlapping an ankle, as they sat on a beach, and not removed. One night they fell asleep, side by side... He slept curled against her back, a dark comma against her pale elegant phrase.”
A.S. Byatt, Possession

The power of words

This is an example of how language can be used to paint a picture in the reader's mind. With master pieces of literature, like this, the author somehow manages to paint, not one single picture obvious to the eye of anyone, but as many pictures as people who read it, because her words react -as in a chemical reaction, almost- in a different way when poured inside the mind of every single person. And that is the magic reaction a master piece of literature can cause. It will touch every person in a different unique way.
