Should teachers know foreign languages?
4 years agoI’m often surprised to hear some language teachers saying “my native language is easy, just book some lessons with me, be committed and it will be OK, after 20 lessons you will speak it.”
When I look at their profile here on Verbling, I am surprised to see that they barely have some sound knowledge of any foreign language.
My question is, how can they know what it means to immerse oneself in a new language with a different structure, different vocabulary and sounds.
Do you think that in order to be a good, efficient and empathic language teacher you have to master at least a foreign language with a certified (and not self proclaimed) C1 level? That’s partly my opinion.
