The passive voice simplified.


Case 1. The subject is unkown or irrelevant.
Compare these two sentences:

Active voice Passive voice

He will clean the room. The room will be cleaned.
Subject: He No subject


Case 2. The subject is known, but in the passive voice it becomes an agent.
Compare these two sentences:

Active voice Passive voice

He will clean the room. The room will be cleaned by him.
Subject: He No subject. The agent is “him.”


Note: Remember to use the preposition “by” before the agent.


GRAMMAR

How to make a sentence in the passive voice:
VERB TO BE (conjugated) + MAIN VERB (Participle)
EXAMPLES:

  1. The house is built. (Verb to be in the Present Simple: is)
  2. The house was built. (Verb to be in the Past Simple: was)
  3. The house will be built. (Verb to be in the Future Simple: will be)
  4. The house would be built. (Verb to be Conditional: would be)
