The three uses of "to have."
Transitive Verb: have followed by a direct object.

I have a red dress.
He has a new job.
You have no idea!

Perfect Tense Auxiliary: have followed by past participle.

We have arrived.
The had been there before.
She has lived in China for a year.

Modal Auxiliary: have followed by infinitive.
We have to stay home.
She would have to answer a few questions.
You didn’t have to say anything.

Exercise:

Write a few sentences for each of the different uses of the verb "to have."
