Using your favorite books for language learning

In the past, when learning a new language, it's been really helpful for me to reread some of my favorite books in my target language. Because I know the storyline and characters well, I can keep up with the plot, while still challenging myself to read and interact with new grammar and syntax in the target language.

Some of the books that have been helpful to (re-)read in other languages include:
  • Anything in the Harry Potter series (in French and Spanish)
  • The Shadow of the Wind (in the original Spanish)
  • Les Mis (in the original French, although I admit I didn't make it all the way through this one!)
  • Daughter of Fortune (in the original Spanish)
What about you? Do you have any books that you know well in your native language and are trying out in English?
