What’s with the shoes?!

This week I have another piece of news for you from the Polski Daily!

Sometimes Poles are difficult to understand. And I don’t just mean the language! Just, there are some situations, when we say something completely different than what we are thinking. And we all know this is just a game. But we play it anyway, even though it might seem as if it makes no sense at all! Maybe you’ve had this kind of situation / conversation in Poland already… Maybe you’ve made this faux pas and you in fact did / didn’t do the thing you’ve heard?

For example: You come to someone’s house as a guest. The hostess: „Oh no, come on, don’t be ridiculous, don’t take your shoes off, come on, don’t, it’s so messy around here, just look, I didn’t have time to clean, look how dirty this floor is, leave your shoes on, seriously!”
- never let it fool you! It’s sure, like 2+2 is 4, no Polish hostess would ever invite you to her house without it being super shiny clean, from the basement to the rooftop. Ou could eat from the floor or perform a heart surgery on it! :D

It’s only the talking about “don’t take your shoes off”, but if you say “okay” and you don’t take them off, it will be frowned upon! “Did you see that? He didn’t take his shoes off and brought all that mud in, and I’ve spent so many hours cleaning. It’s outrageous!”

Sooo, what do you think? Have you ever had any situation like this? Do you have similar scenarios in your country? Let me know! ;)

Cheers!
