in Iranian Culture, Yalda night is December  20 and 21st. Iranian celebrate longest night of year for some reasons: 
It is birthdate of Mitra / Mehr a Zoroastrians idol with Sun sign , birth of sun , nights and darkness over and light and sun starts shining. days are getting longer. Family reunion dancing, having fun, eating watermelon and pomegranate.
