English Tutors & Teachers
I'm a professional English teacher. I have a TEFL qualification and I have been teaching since 1999. My career started in Japan where I was a conversational English teacher. Within a year I had become the headmaster of a private English school serving 400 students. In 2014 I returned to the UK where I established an online presence. In 2016 I became an MBA consultant preparing students for the rigorous admissions test and interview. If you are preparing for the VIVA interview, I can help with that too. I'm a published author with years of experience proofreading. I'd be happy to have a look at your essays. I am very patient, and you can ask me all the questions you want, as many times as you want, until you understand very well. Let me know what you need and how I can help you, and I will be here for you. I will do my best to help you achieve your goals of becoming fluent in English. I'll introduce a bit more information about me. I am British and I live in Bournemouth. I'm a B1 speaker of Japanese. After a career in the civil service in England, I travelled to New Zealand where I resided for 8 years. I attended university there and studied computer science at Massey University in New Zealand and then moved into the private sector where I gained experience in the technology market and the insurance industry. In 1998, I resumed my education and took a CELTA course to pursue a dream of teaching English in Japan. After gaining some experience in a school in Saitama, I opened my own schools in Chiba and Tokyo and became a registered Japanese corporation. I am now pursuing a career in medicine. In 2017 I enrolled in medical school and I’m doing doctor/PhD programme and plan to specialise in oncology. Although I have a busy teaching and study schedule, I like to watch movies in my downtime and also enjoy mountain biking, running and swimming. I look forward to meeting you online!

Hello Friend! I hope you're having a great day! My name is Brent and I am from Santa Rosa, California. My hometown is in the California wine country, a beautiful place with outstanding weather. I have lived in Japan for thirteen years. I lived in Osaka for one year and then moved to Tokyo. I came to Japan because I am a poet and I love haiku. Japan is a wonderful country that has changed me in many positive ways. And the sushi...wow. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature/Poetry with a Minor in Education from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. My interests include haiku, hiking, comedy, studying Japanese, reading, food, traveling, baseball, and music. I am a very curious person and I enjoy learning about others' hobbies and interests. As a language learner myself, I understand the challenges involved with learning languages, which helps me address student concerns and needs in a constructive way. I teach all kinds of English, including general conversation, business English, TOEIC, TOEFL, Eiken, and kids lessons. I teach a wide range of ages, from two months old to eighty years old. Let me customize English lessons for you. We can use any books, newspapers, movies, songs, or other learning materials you like. I can also create original materials just for you! I love my students' English. There is no bad English. No one has bad English. If you can say "Hello.", that's great. If you can say "Nice to meet you.", that's great. The key is to own your English because it's yours! It's all about enjoying studying and getting better every day. One of my favorite haiku poets is Kobayashi Issa and this is one of his best poems. 蝸牛そろそろ登れ富士の山 Katatsumuri sorosoro nobore Fuji no yama Climb Mount Fuji, O snail, but slowly, slowly. This haiku has many meanings but one of my favorites is that Issa is telling even a snail, which is very slow, to slow down and enjoy climbing Fuji. It's the same with learning. Learning a language is like climbing Mt. Fuji. It's challenging and it takes time. Of course we want to improve every day but we have to make sure we look around and really enjoy the beautiful scenery, we should enjoy the new language we learn. Being a poet, I like to share my love of language with students so that they can experience more fully the joys of studying English. I am a people person and I use humor and a student-oriented approach to create a fun, comfortable learning environment. Your goals are my goals. I hope to meet you soon!
I originally graduated from Boston University with a Master's Degree in Engineering; however, later on, I found my true calling in teaching English. For the past six years, I have been working as the Director of Education & Cultural Development for the Colorado Rockies. The position entails the implementation and coordination of the educational needs for all of the Latin players signed within the organization. It was my job to create an education curriculum to address the needs of the players and help them obtain the equivalent of a high school diploma. The primary responsibilities include the recruitment and training of teachers, professors, psychologists and educational facilitators from diverse areas as well as implement and oversee the high school/GED program for the academy. The duties also include mentoring the players, especially those with learning disabilities and help them develop their critical thinking abilities. I have spent approximately 15 years as an English Instructor and Professor. I have worked at various international institutes as well as local and private universities teaching Advanced Physics and Theoretical Mathematics. My areas of expertise in regards to ESL are vocabulary, accent reduction, reading and listening comprehension as well as in depth knowledge of American customs and culture. Teaching is my passion and is undeniably the most important job I've ever had in my life. Please feel free to reach out to me. I am always available to teach new students and I'll try to make it worth your while. Take care!
