Hello Verbling Community!
My name is Yvonne and I am a professional English teacher- I am a native speaker originally from Michigan but have lived in the tiny European country of Luxembourg for the past 31 years. After a 28 year career in the financial sector, I decided to return to school to become a certified ESL teacher. For the past 6 years, I have been teaching English full-time. I teach for the market-leading private language schools, as well as for the National school system. I teach one-on-one as well as to groups. Teaching is my vocation and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. My teaching style is student-centered. After evaluating the student's current level, we plan the target language goals together and work together towards realizing these language goals. As the lessons progress, I reinforce grammar where needed, but in a pleasant way. I have a veritable warehouse of material to put at my students' disposal.
Of course, we work on all four pillars: speaking, reading,&listening comprehension and writing. If the student wishes only to be coached in conversation, no problem. I give homework as it implicates the student and leads to steady motivation. I am patient and since I am also a language learner, I can put myself in my students' shoes. I am a kind and outgoing teacher. My current students appreciate my innate patience. My fluency in other languages ( German, French, and Luxembourgish) gives me insight into my students' mistakes and assists me in my teaching. Besides languages, my hobbies include music, cooking, travel and I love to play trivia games.
