How do you cope with a different alphabet?

Many of my students are from Spain or Latin America, which is great, as both of our languages have the same alphabet! But I also have some students from Morocco, and other places where the alphabet of their native language is entirely different!

So my question to those students is, how do you cope with a new alphabet? Where do you even begin? It's an great challenge and an equally interesting question!
