What constitutes good practice?

The cliché is that practice makes perfect, but what constitutes good practice?

It's important that your practice be as similar as possible to the real thing. You learn how to drive a car by driving, not by reading about how to drive.

So how do you want to use English?

If you want to read English literature, challenge yourself to read simple English books. If you want to use English for business, try reading American business news online. If you want to learn conversational English, that's where sites like Verbling come in: You can have conversations every week with a native speaker.

Over the next week I'll be posting more detailed suggestions about how to approach books, the news, and conversation so you can get the most out of your practice.
