Why language is all about story telling

Why do we learn a language? 

I was asked this question by one of my students in Changchun in China, and I couldn't think of an answer immediately. I was stumped.

Then I realized that all languages are tools used to tell a story, whether we are telling the story about our morning trip to work, or telling the story about the product we are trying to sell to our overseas client, the skill needed is the skill of story telling.

I love to encourage my students to practice telling stories, and help them with their grammar and pronunciation along the way.
