Hi! I'm an Italian tutor with a long background in language teaching. I started teaching Italian in my twenties at a small private school in Germany and have been working in education ever since. I'm a certified foreign language teacher (Cambridge Assessment), and for the past 10+ years, I’ve been teaching and evaluating language programs across West Asia. My teaching style is practical and engaging. I focus on teaching the language in chunks—so you learn real, useful expressions from day one. We’ll use lots of repetition and targeted drills to help new structures stick. I also use a mix of tech tools and apps to make learning more varied. I was preparing a lesson for a student of mine, when I found myself struggling with a translation. The word was “cavare”. «Pull out» I thought. But then… was there a better word? “Cavare”, in Italian, doesn’t only mean “to pull out”, that would be “estrarre”, “tirar fuori”, “rimuovere” or something else. “Cavare” has the word “cavità” (cavity) in it. “Cavare” means “to extract from a cavity”, “to remove and leave a cavity” and I couldn’t find a single word in English that suited the perfect meaning. This happens to me all the time, as I speak three languages daily and I am a “word perfectionist”: I am fascinated by the meaning that every word can have, those little shades of significance that can only be understood by those who profoundly study a language.
