Spanish through culture, history and the arts.
I’m Juan Francisco, I’m a writer and Spanish teacher based in Mexico City. I write fiction and essays, and contribute regularly to some of Mexico’s leading art magazines. I believe in learning languages through works of art, attentive reading and listening, and real conversations about topics that move us. Staying attuned to the cultural life of the city and the country—its literature, film, exhibitions, politics, and history—is vital to me, and I enjoy bringing that perspective into my lessons.
I work especially well with students who are eager to engage with Mexican and Latin American culture in a deeper way. Whether you're interested in literature, politics, cinema, history, or everyday life in Mexico City, our sessions can become a space for thoughtful exchange. I also enjoy sharing recommendations for books, films, or even places to eat, drink and visit.
I hold a degree in Latin American Studies and a certificate in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, both from UNAM. I’ve been teaching since 2017, and I’ve studied several languages myself—so I understand both the intellectual and emotional dimensions of the learning process. I find grammar fascinating and can help clarify complex points when needed, always in the context of meaningful conversation.

Mis clases de prueba
During the trial lesson we will get to know each other a bit. I will ask you about your history with Spanish and your goals. Then we can talk about the structure of the class, the methodology, what you prefer in that area and my own recommendations (you are the boss). Afterwards we will try to speak a little Spanish, if your level allows it, and we will have a few more minutes to answer your questions and hear your comments. Don't stress out! It will be an easy and friendly session.
