Let's enjoy learning Japanese together! 【My lessons are ideal for students who are】 ・Absolute beginners (No worries if you know nothing about Japanese! I was born in Japan and studied in Canada and USA. When I was studying music in LA, I learned Brazilian music and a couple of years later I went to Brazil and met my husband. I didn't know how to speak Portuguese at that time, I only knew how to sing in Portuguese, but from the very first day of Brazil I learned how to have fun and communicate with people without knowing much of the theory and vocabulary. It was just like how people learn jazz. There's a theory behind, but the most importantly we should feel and improvise. And to understand the theory, you first should listen, listen and listen. So my learning and teaching method can be a little unique. It's not like the traditional way that we all know, which you read, write, and listen to the explanations, instead, I want you to feel it. It's important to study and understand the grammar and try to memorize as much vocabularies as you can, but you can't forget to have fun, and you can't memorize things by just reading and thinkin...

Hello! My name is Miwa, and my family home is on Sado Island, a small and beautiful island in Japan. My father’s family has been rice farmers there for over 200 years. It’s a peaceful village where people live close to nature, helping each other with rice and vegetable farming. Every year, the community holds a traditional festival at the local shrine to pray for a good harvest—one of the traditions I treasure deeply. Now I live in Auckland, New Zealand, where I experience very different cultures and values. Living abroad has deepened my appreciation for Japan, and I would love to share not only the Japanese language but also our daily life, culture, and values with you. I have been teaching Japanese for over 7 years, working with both beginners and advanced learners from all over the world. I offer one-on-one lessons and group classes, and I always tailor lessons to each student’s level, interests, and goals. For beginners, I use my own original materials to make learning easy a...

**Usually, the evening time slots(US Eastern time) would be taken by current students** こんにちはー! ようこそ、私の日本語クラスへ! Hello, welcome to my Japanese language course! I’m from Yokohama, one of the biggest cities in Japan, located on Tokyo Bay just South of Tokyo, so I speak and teach Tokyo dialect, also known as standard dialect. My major was English language and literature and I did my graduate thesis on intercultural communications. I also took ESL courses with several different professors over the years so I understand how hard it is to study different languages and I know what works. My methodology on language learning is a combination of immersive and traditional learning. The Japanese language requires a great amount of effort to master, but it becomes far easier if you use the language colloquially first, as children do. Language is like a jigsaw puzzle; it will become easier as you fill it in. I will help you learn through conversation, textbooks, and roleplay. I also can...

Japanese is NOT just about words and grammar—it’s about PERSPECTIVE, CULTURE, and the STORIES behind it all. Too often, language is taught like a formula, disconnected from its DEEPER meaning. That’s why it feels confusing, why the rules don’t stick, and why it stops being fun. Does this sound familiar? ① Not knowing where to start ② Particles! ③ Conjugations ④ て-form Without cultural and historical context, particles feel random, formalities rigid, and expressions meaningless. In my lessons, I’ll help you see why Japanese works the way it does. Once you understand the “WHY,” everything clicks. It’s not just a language—it’s a way to think, connect, and experience life. Teaching Japanese is not my work, it is my PASSION. It always makes me very happy when I meet people who are interested in my language. I tailor my lessons to suit you! I prepare each class according to your language needs as well as your interests and personality. Me as a Teacher: I specialize in helping ...

こんにちは。I'm a native Japanese speaker. I live in Osaka. I am a mother of 2 kids. I attended Osaka University where I majored in Japanese teaching. In the university, I studied how to teach Japanese to foreign people. I think the most important thing is to relax and enjoy the lessons. After graduating, I worked for a localization division of a Japanese Game Publisher in Osaka for a period of 13 years. My duties involved the translation (from English to Japanese) of in-game content and manual booklets for more than 100 games. I understand there are many Japanese phrases that cannot be translated literally to your language. Also, Keigo (Honorific) may be complicating. I'd like to think with you what is the best way to learn the language for you. It may be to read Japanese manga (comic books), to watch Japanese movies, or to discuss some topics of Japanese newspapers.
