À propos de moi

Hello Friend!

I hope you're having a great day!

My name is Brent and I am from Santa Rosa, California. My hometown is in the California wine country, a beautiful place with outstanding weather.

I have lived in Japan for thirteen years. I lived in Osaka for one year and then moved to Tokyo. I came to Japan because I am a poet and I love haiku. Japan is a wonderful country that has changed me in many positive ways. And the sushi...wow.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature/Poetry with a Minor in Education from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language.

My interests include haiku, hiking, comedy, studying Japanese, reading, food, traveling, baseball, and music. I am a very curious person and I enjoy learning about others' hobbies and interests.

As a language learner myself, I understand the challenges involved with learning languages, which helps me address student concerns and needs in a constructive way.

I teach all kinds of English, including general conversation, business English, TOEIC, TOEFL, Eiken, and kids lessons. I teach a wide range of ages, from two months old to eighty years old.

Let me customize English lessons for you. We can use any books, newspapers, movies, songs, or other learning materials you like. I can also create original materials just for you!

I love my students' English.

There is no bad English. No one has bad English.

If you can say "Hello.", that's great. If you can say "Nice to meet you.", that's great.

The key is to own your English because it's yours! It's all about enjoying studying and getting better every day.

One of my favorite haiku poets is Kobayashi Issa and this is one of his best poems.

蝸牛そろそろ登れ富士の山

Katatsumuri sorosoro nobore Fuji no yama

Climb Mount Fuji,
O snail,
but slowly, slowly.

This haiku has many meanings but one of my favorites is that Issa is telling even a snail, which is very slow, to slow down and enjoy climbing Fuji. It's the same with learning. Learning a language is like climbing Mt. Fuji. It's challenging and it takes time. Of course we want to improve every day but we have to make sure we look around and really enjoy the beautiful scenery, we should enjoy the new language we learn.

Being a poet, I like to share my love of language with students so that they can experience more fully the joys of studying English. I am a people person and I use humor and a student-oriented approach to create a fun, comfortable learning environment.

Your goals are my goals.

I hope to meet you soon!
