After 20 years...

Hi everyone,
I have been getting students besides Verbling lately, and am enjoying teaching Nihongo!
Mostly I get students in their upper beginner level to N2 level and I’m very happy that they are really enthusiastic about learning and do not get sidetracked and that I can spend a quality learning session with each of them. Also most ask me to give them homework. I usually create homework assignments myself to give it a little spice. Anyways, please feel free to send me a message for a trial lesson if you’re interested!

A long time ago, I was learning the piano.
My mother graduated from a renowned music collage and was teaching piano at home. Naturally, she wanted me to learn piano.
But, I knew I wasn’t good at it, and quit after high school.

Since then, somewhere in my mind, I’ve been thinking I wanted to play the piano just for fun, but I was hesitant to get a electric piano, much less a real piano because they’re not cheap and will take up space etc…
However, about a month ago I found out that a good neighbor friend of mine had a CASIO electric keyboard!
It was her late husband’s and she had not played the piano.
But she brought it out of her storage because she thought she may want to try it for fun.

She has gone to Washington the other day for a month or more and in the meantime, I am her cat-sitter.
So I started to practice the piano with her e-keyboard!!
I made myself an assignment to be able to play 2 easiest Etudes by Chopin smoothly by the time she gets back, and practicing about 2 hours a day.
Just as expected, my hand cramps a little when play finger practice tunes fast, but surprisingly my fingers do move quite ok than expected.
It’s my first time to even touch an e-keyboard, and it’s a little different touch from the real piano, but I think I can get back my level to the point where I left off about 20years ago.
I play on my pace, but since I made myself a goal to reach, I really enjoy the practice.

I guess your Japanese practice or improvement is not something that you are made to do or achieve by someone else, so it’s fun, right? Same thing!

Let’s have fun and Enjoy Nihongo!

Hi there! My name is Yukiko. I am a native Japanese speaker and live in the United States. I studied the effective method of teaching Japanese language to non-native speakers and got certified. I offer tailored lessons for each student since each student's needs and level is different. I make customized learning materials according to each student's learning stage, but you're welcome to bring a material you wish to use, especially if you have a JLPT goal.👌 If you would like to focus mainly on conversation, let's talk! The key to improve your speaking is to voice out and repeat👄(^^♪ No hesitation! 🤔 Even if you don't have enough vocab yet, try to use whatever words you have learned so far in your sentence. DON'T BE SHY! Also, in Japanese, pitch accent is very important. For Pre-beginner&Beginner students, I don't just push them to memorizing Hiragana/Katakana characters, however, this part is the first fundamental of learning Japanese language. Students are encouraged to learn...
