Hi! My name is Zoia. I am from Syria and I am studying International Relations at the University of British Columbia. One of the reasons why I am pursuing this major is that I am fascinated by different cultures and their interactions. There is a strong and complex connection between the language and the culture it is used in which led me to develop a passion for languages since I was young, hence I learned English, Spanish and Russian. While I was learning these languages, I came across many difficulties one might face learning a new language, and therefore, I have developed many strategies to overcome those difficulties. My native language is Arabic, and I have taught it to international students when I was studying in Armenia! I teach mainly Levantine dialect. Arabic is not difficult. Whatever your mother tongue is, there will be similarities to Arabic because language is the tool that humankind utilizes to communicate with one another. We all came from the same origin. We all use the same tool to communicate (i.e., language).
