About Me
Hello, I'm Lesley and I'm a British (London born) native English speaker and teacher recently returned to the UK after living in France for the past 14 years. I speak with a neutral accent which means that I don't have a regional accent and this, together with speaking clearly, makes it easier for non native English speakers to understand me. I've had nearly 20 years' teaching experience in the UK, France and Sierra Leone. I've got a Bachelor of Arts degree in English & Applied Social Science, a University of Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and a Certificate in Education (Cert Ed. Post Compulsory Education). I'm highly motivated and genuinely love teaching and sharing my love of the English language and culture with others who are keen to learn. At the same time I love finding out about different countries and cultures and am always keen to structure lessons so that students can talk about their own customs and traditions. I've taught students at all levels from beginner to advanced. As well as general English which includes conversation, discussion, development in grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking and writing I also specialise in academic English, English for research purposes, Legal English, Medical English, Business English and English for exam and interview preparation. Lessons are planned, relaxed, comfortable, and professional. I will encourage you to talk so that you will gain confidence and be motivated to practise your English in public without fear (yes, in British English we use 'practise' with an 's' as a verb and 'practice' with a 'c' as a noun but in American English this is not the case - Lesson no. 1!) . If it's conversational English you want or you'd like more grammar based knowledge I can adapt to suit your needs. I'm very easy going and flexible and I like to make lessons fun and relaxed because I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable and stress-free.
Why not book a trial lesson?
During the trial lesson, we’ll find out a little about each other. We’ll talk about your needs and interests and any special vocabulary, reading or writing skills that you hope to achieve. This trial lesson will enable me to find out your level of proficiency now and what level you would like to achieve in the future. Lessons following on from a trial lesson will be personally tailored to your individual requirements as your learning journey is a unique experience just for you.
My areas of focus: Vocabulary enrichment, pronunciation, conversational English, idioms, business/professional/research English, writing skills, effective meetings, interviews and presentations and taking an advanced student to the next level. There will also be a good level of culture for you to learn about as I believe language and culture cannot be separated.
I hope I’ve shared enough information to help you decide if we might be a good match. If you have any questions before you make your decision, please send me a message.
