About Me

[May 5, -- my wife and I will be driving about 1500 km this week, so I will be very slow responding to messages] Hi, my name's Art; I am a certified ESL tutor, and as of May 5, I am ranked #4 most popular tutor of English on Verbling out of the "...hundreds of online native English tutors...." according to the Verbling website. That ranking is earned after teaching 1,041 students and 8.727 classes here since May of 2015, almost 10 years. Don't take my word for it; look it up. That ranking is based on honest student reviews, 4024 of them. You can't read over 4000 reviews, but reading a few, and knowing they add up to a #4 ranking out of hundreds, and a 5 star rating should tell you something. Listen to them... not me.--- Anyway, I started teaching ESL 40 years ago in Salamanca Spain, then continued part-time while also teaching Spanish as a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University where I received an M.A. in Hispanic Literature in 1988. I left another career about 13 years ago when my Venezuelan wife and I moved back to her home country, and there I also happily returned to my first career of teaching ESL. I began teaching a course at the university level at the Universidad Arturo Michelena, but then realized I felt called to tutoring one student at a time. Many of my students were/are preparing for TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, NATO, or Trinity exams etc., so I have experience helping there. In addition I have helped some students preparing to take the test to become a U.S. citizen. I did 3 modules with the ICAL TEFL institute based in London towards certification in TEFL. The rest of their course dealt with classroom, small group, and pairs work, things that are not relevant to one on one tutoring. If you want to know my qualifications, I suggest reading the comments of my students. They are the best judges of tutor quality. If you need help with exam preparation, CV editing, job interviews, pronunciation, presentations, conversation, grammar,--or even the exam to become a US citizen, etc. I'd be glad to help. Best of luck to you in your English studies, and remember never get discouraged! The key is hard work, lots of patience and determination. Cheers!

Hola, me llamo Art. ¡Saludos!

My trial lessons

I usually just ask a lot of questions so I can get a feel for how your English is... and how I might be able to help you. Of course I am happy to answer any questions you might have.
